PALFINGER: Inspiring Women Engineers of Tomorrow
Playfully exploring technology at kindergarten age: 35 girls from the Sighartstein and Neumarkt kindergartens visited the PALFINGER World in Lengau to catch a first impression of STEM professions. PALFINGER supports the “Neugierig ins Leben” (Curious about Life) initiative and is once again sending a clear message promoting equal opportunities and challenging gender stereotypes.
“Girls are our potential employees of tomorrow. If we succeed in opening young girls' minds at an early stage and in inspiring them to pursue technical careers, we can bring about lasting, sustainable change”, states Maria Koller, CHRO at PALFINGER.
Inspiring girls for male-dominated careers
Diversity and equal opportunities matter to PALFINGER. Disrupting stereotypes and broadening horizons cannot start early enough. That is why since 2016 PALFINGER has been part of the Curious about Life initiative organized by the EINSTIEG association and initiated and funded by the state of Salzburg and the Youth Department.
The goal of the project is to show the diversity of professional fields to kindergarten children. This offers girls the opportunity to get to know companies and industries that have traditionally been male dominated. The initiative aims to inspire, motivate and encourage girls to discover and develop their interests and talents, regardless of gender stereotypes.
Tomorrow's women engineers
At PALFINGER World, a colorful program awaited the girls. At the center of it all was technology. Using a playful concept, the children got to know PALFINGER products and typical career fields in the STEM sector. At various stations, the young participants easily and playfully explored how crane models and their remote controls work. As the highlight of the day, the girls had the chance to see cranes, access platforms and truck-mounted forklifts in action, try out virtual reality glasses and take over the crane’s control unit.
