A Modern Workspace to Drive Global Operations

03.12.2024

With the expansion of its Global Business Services (GBS) Center in Sofia, Bulgaria, PALFINGER continues to strengthen its worldwide operations. Established in 2021, the GBS Center operates from a state-of-the-art office, centralizing key services and creating career opportunities for the local labor market.

PALFINGER’s Global Business Service Center (GBS) in Sofia consolidates new capabilities and tasks previously managed locally. The center provides centralized support throughout the EMEA and NAM regions, including sales, procurement, finance, HR, research & development, as well as process & quality management.

Strong Footprint in Bulgaria

Alongside the two manufacturing sites in Tenevo and Cherven Bryag the GBS Center adds to Bulgaria’s strategic position within the European production network of PALFINGER. “It is a cornerstone of our global strategy,” says CFO Felix Strohbichler. “By standardizing and automating processes, we unlock synergies to boost efficiency and effectiveness across our regions. With its excellent infrastructure and a skilled, innovative workforce, Sofia offers the perfect environment. This enables us to deliver high-quality services aligned with our evolving business needs.”

At the official opening ceremony, Philippe Kupfer, Austrian Commercial Counsellor and Head of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, emphasized the importance of the new office: “We are proud to see Austrian companies, including global leaders like PALFINGER, deepening their investments in Bulgaria. Over 300 Austrian companies contribute significantly to Bulgaria’s economy, driving innovation and creating jobs.”

Fostering Growth and Innovation

Since its foundation in 2021, the GBS Center has grown from 0 to 135+ employees, with plans to reach 160 by 2025. This expansion showcases the team’s ability to handle diverse and complex functions. “What makes us unique is our comprehensive scope,” explains Victor Karadjov, GBS Center Lead. “We manage all back-office activities for PALFINGER, from finance and procurement to SAP second-level support and engineering roles that directly impact product development. This setup gives our employees a broad understanding of company operations and exceptional growth opportunities.” The GBS Center actively seeks new talent. “We’re looking for knowledgeable, proactive, and committed employees eager to grow within a globally operating company,” adds Karadjov.
