PALFINGER: Apprentices show off their technical skills

17.04.2023

The annual apprentice competition organized by the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Upper Austrian Association of Training Managers sees apprentices from all over the region compete against each other. The event puts the knowledge and skills that the apprentices have gained during the first two years of training to the test. Once again, PALFINGER is making its state-of-the-art campus in Lengau available to the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce as a venue as well as sending apprentices to take part.

More than 600 apprentices competed against each other in the technical part of the Upper Austrian apprenticeship competition on April 15, 2023. The young women and men representing their professions in process technology, metals engineering, information technology, electrical engineering, mechatronics, electronics, plastics technology, design and metalworking, among others, impressively demonstrated the skills they had acquired over the past two years. 22 PALFINGER apprentices participated, including three young women. Their achievements follow on from the successes of previous years: In 2022, both the overall winner and winner in the “Best of Apprentice Award 2022” category as well as the winner in the “Women in Technology” category were PALFINGER employees. The two apprentices competed in the disciplines of mechanical engineering and process technology. In the year before that, an apprentice from PALFINGER also delivered the best results in the area of mechanical engineering technology.

Applying in-depth know-how

Bernhard Eicher, head of apprentice training at PALFINGER, emphasizes the importance of the competition for apprentices and the company: “For PALFINGER, the apprentice competition is a systems check of where we stand in terms of skilled technician training. It shows how well our apprentices are able to produce high quality in a limited time period — have thus obtained the skills required by the highest level of skilled professionals. Once again this year, we have some highly motivated apprentices entering the event and are very proud of them and their performance.”

PALFINGER apprentices have been taking part in this competition since 2004 and for the fifth time, PALFINGER, alongside another 21 companies from Upper Austria, has made its campus available as a venue for the technical part. The PALFINGER Campus is a state-of-the-art training center in Lengau, which offers future-oriented training opportunities for around 200 apprentices on premises of over 1,500 m².

The commercial competition takes place one month later, on May 13, at the WIFI college in Linz. The grand finale with the awards ceremony for this year's apprenticeship competition will be held on June 13, 2023. PALFINGER wishes all apprentices much success and is looking forward to the results.
