PALFINGER at Red Bull Flugtag: Flying Shark!

27.09.2021

The PALFINGER team impressed the jury at the Red Bull Flugtag in Vienna and flew to a successful 14th place. As an official cooperation partner, the world market leader for innovative crane and lifting solutions was also there to ensure that everything ran smoothly. At this legendary event, daring constructors get airborne with their home-made flying machines.

A flying shark! That's what you get when the world market leader for crane and lifting solutions enters its own team in the Red Bull Flugtag. On Sunday, the PALFINGER team impressively demonstrated its flying skills with a shark design in Brigittenauer Bay and flew a distance of 9 meters to splash into 14th place. But that's not all: As a cooperation partner, PALFINGER supported the event in the Brigittenauer Bay in Vienna with Lifting Solutions and a prominent jury.

Engineering Skills Meet Marine Life

Sleek, streamlined and strong: the shark is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for designers. It was also the basis for the design of the PALFINGER flying machine. The engineering team was similarly inspired when they designed a PALFINGER product: the marine crane. A sleek and strong design combined with high precision as well as exact control is also what helped the Flying Shark to the 14th place. “From the beginning, our goal was to give the jury and the audience an unforgettable performance. Following yesterday’s result, we can say: Mission accomplished!”, reports a delighted David Roither, team member and Calculation Engineer at PALFINGER.

Taking Off with Innovation

“The flying team has put its guiding principle, ‘Innovation is an idea in action’ into practice. This is the spirit with which we drive innovation at PALFINGER. And it’s employees like these that make it happen. Their energetic effort has been rewarded,” explains PALFINGER CEO Andreas Klauser. The technology company was on site as a cooperation partner with a perfect selection of its products: A crawler crane ensured everything was set up smoothly, an aerial work platform guaranteed an exclusive all-round view of the action, a truck-mounted forklift brought a change of sports with the PALFINGER Basketball Challenge and a loader crane lifted all the flying machines quickly and safely back onto land. PALFINGER also contributed to the official Flugtag jury: The beach volleyball duo Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst, who have been sponsored by PALFINGER for many years, represented the Salzburg-based company on the jury.
