PALFINGER: Girls at the Controls

Getting women and girls interested in technical careers is very important to PALFINGER. By participating in the “Neugierig ins Leben” (Curious in Life) initiative, PALFINGER helps to promote STEM subjects at an early stage. Girls from kindergartens in the region can visit the technology company and have fun getting to grips with cranes and lifting solutions at the training center in Kasern in Salzburg.

In order for girls to dare to break new ground professionally, it is important that they are welcomed in the first place. To encourage their awareness of future opportunities in a playful way even at kindergarten age, PALFINGER has been taking part in the “Curious in Life” initiative since 2016. As part of the campaign, children are given the opportunity to visit companies in the region and find out what they do through exciting and child-friendly activities.

Crane operator for a day

PALFINGER uses the day to focus on the diversity of technology. There are different stations where the girls are shown how each type of crane works and how they are operated using the remote controls. But that's just the start, because in the PALFINGER training center, they can see cranes, access platforms and truck-mounted forklifts in action, try out the virtual reality glasses and take control using the PALFINGER remote control system.

The women employees of tomorrow

PALFINGER promotes diversity and equal opportunities. “As the technology leader in an industry with a proportion of male employees that is still relatively high, we want more girls to become interested in technical careers,” says Michael Berger, Vice President Global Human Resources, PALFINGER AG. “The kindergarten children of today are the employees of tomorrow — so we can't start early enough in breaking down traditional role models and showing kids that they can achieve anything regardless of gender.”
